Certification Reinstatement and Forfeiture

The CRAA® certification renewal process is essential for maintaining the integrity and value of your credential, both for the public and the profession. If you miss the renewal deadline and your CRAA® certification lapses, you may still have the opportunity to reinstate your certification and regain the right to use the CRAA® Certification Marks. However, failure to renew within the allowed period may result in the forfeiture of your certification rights.

Procedure for Reinstating Lapsed Certification

If your CRAA® certification has lapsed, the process for reinstating it depends on how much time has passed since your last active Certification Period, which ends on May 31 each year. If more than thirty (30) days have passed, your right to use the CRAA® Certification Marks will be revoked. To reinstate your certification, you may be required to pay a late fee as well as a reinstatement fee, depending upon the timing of payment, and meet other renewal conditions to regain your certification privileges.

Late Renewal Period for Certification Renewal

After the end of the Certification Period on May 31, there is a 30-day Late Renewal Period to accommodate certificants who may have inadvertently missed the renewal process. If you renew your certification within this 30-day period, you will incur only a late fee in addition to your regular Certification Renewal Dues.

During this Late Renewal Period, RPII will make efforts to contact you via your email address of record to inform you of your expired certification and any applicable late fees.

To restore your certification to good standing, you must:

  • Pay a Late Fee:  Remit a Late Fee of USD 50, in addition to the regular Certification Renewal Dues for one (1) Certification Period.
  • Complete the Renewal Ethics Declaration:  Reaffirm your commitment to RPII's Code and Principles of Professional Conduct.
  • Satisfy the Continuing Education (CE) Requirement:  Complete the CE Requirement for one (1) Certification Period. RPII may request documentation and/or proof of the required number of CE credit hours.

More Than 30 Days But Less Than Two Years

If you do not renew your CRAA® certification within the Late Renewal Period, your status will be updated to "Not Certified" in RPII’s records, and you will be prohibited from using the CRAA® Certification Marks. Continued use of the Certification Marks in this situation may result in sanctions under the CRAA® Program and could lead to legal action.

To reinstate your certification, you must:

  • Pay a Late Fee:  Remit a Late Fee of USD 100, in addition to the regular Certification Renewal Dues for one (1) Certification Period.
  • Complete the Renewal Ethics Declaration:  Reaffirm your commitment to RPII's Code and Principles of Professional Conduct.
  • Satisfy the Continuing Education (CE) Requirement:  Complete the CE Requirement for one (1) Certification Period. RPII will request documentation and/or proof of the required number of CE credit hours.

More Than Two Years

If you do not reinstate your certification within two (2) years of your last active Certification Period, your certification will be permanently abandoned and cannot be reinstated. To regain the right to use the CRAA® Certification Marks again, you will need to retake and pass the CRAA® Exam and fulfill all current certification requirements in effect at that time.

Additional Important Information

  • Administrative Fees:  In addition to all other dues and fees, a non-refundable fee will be charged to cover administrative costs for dishonored credit card charges.
  • Certification Deferral:  You cannot request a Certification Deferral during any period when your CRAA® certification has lapsed.
  • Appeal Process:  If your certification reinstatement is denied by RPII due to any disciplinary action or sanctions imposed by the Ethics Committee (EC), you may request a review by the Ethics Appeal Board (EAB). This review process follows RPII's Ethics Committee Procedures and Rules (ECPR).

Forfeiting or Abandoning Your Certification

You are considered to have permanently abandoned your CRAA® certification if you:

  • Fail to reinstate your certification within two (2) years of the expiration of your last active Certification Period; or
  • Voluntarily relinquish your certification and provide written notification of such to RPII, as described below.

If you are currently actively certified, you may voluntarily forfeit your certification at any time during your active Certification Period or upon renewal of your certification at the end of your Certification Period. To do so, notify RPII in writing, and we will provide a form for you to complete, indicating your desire to relinquish your rights to use the CRAA® Certification Marks. Please remember, all certification dues paid to RPII are non-refundable and non-transferable.

If you decide to forfeit or abandon your certification, you must remove all references to the CRAA® Certification Marks from your professional and social media profiles, business cards, reports, correspondence, any other representations of your CRAA® certificant status.
