CRAA® Certification Renewal: Deferrals Due to Personal Leave or Retirement

Your CRAA® certification can remain active even if your career path or personal circumstances change. Certification Deferrals are available for CRAA® certificants who wish to maintain their certification status but may not meet the Continuing Education Requirement during certain periods.

Certification Deferral Due to Personal Leave

At RPII, we understand the importance of work-life balance, whether you're taking time off to recharge or on parental leave. To accommodate CRAA® certificants facing life changes, we offer a Certification Deferral option. You may qualify for a Certification Deferral if you are:

  • Taking a break from your career, or working outside the real assets industry;
  • On leave or sabbatical for family, health, or other personal-related matters;
  • Unemployed.

Key Benefits of Certification Deferral

  • Suspended Continuing Education (CE) Requirement:  The Continuing Education Requirement will be suspended based on the timing of your deferral approval (see details below).
  • Reduced Renewal Dues:  If your deferral applies to a future Certification Period, your dues will be reduced to USD 149 for that period.

Eligibility Timing Based on Certification Period

If More Than 61 Days Remain in Your Active Certification Period:
  • Your deferral will begin immediately, but the Continuing Education Requirement will only be suspended for the remainder of the current active Certification Period.
  • There will be no reduction in renewal dues for the current Certification Period, as dues are paid in advance. However, if your deferral extends into the next Certification Period, your renewal dues for that period will be reduced to USD 149.
If 61 Days or Less Remain in Your Active Certification Period:
  • Your deferral will begin in the next Certification Period starting June 1.
  • The Continuing Education Requirement will be suspended for 12 months starting June 1, and your renewal dues for the Certification Period will be reduced to USD 149.

Additional Consideration

  • Certification Deferrals are not available to new certificants during their first full year of certification.

Emeritus Status

Certificants retiring from the real assets industry who wish to maintain their CRAA® credential can apply for Emeritus Status. This status is designed for certificants who are:

  • No longer involved in the real assets industry on a day-to-day basis; or
  • not currently engaged in sufficient professional activity that qualifies under the Continuing Education Requirement.

By requesting and qualifying for Emeritus Status, your Renewal Dues will be reduced to USD 149, and the Continuing Education (CE) Requirement will be waived. This allows you to continue using the CRAA® certification marks and stay connected with RPII’s global community of certificants.

Emeritus Status Eligibility

To apply for Emeritus Status, you must meet the following criteria:

  • CRAA® Certification:  You have held CRAA® certification for at least five (5) years.
  • Good Standing  You have not been previously sanctioned by RPII.
  • Work Involvement:  You are not engaged in work activities that meet the Continuing Education Requirement on a full-time basis.

Obligations Under Emeritus Status

Even under Emeritus Status, you are still required to:

  • Abide by RPII's Code and Principles of Professional Conduct:  You remain subject to the same ethical standards as active certificants.
  • Complete the Annual Renewal Ethics Declaration:  Although the CE requirement is waived, you must continue to submit the Ethics Declaration each year.

Retired certificants remain subject to disciplinary actions by RPII if any violations of certification requirements occur.
