The CRAA® Program includes five essential components that assess your real assets knowledge and professional experience. On average, the certification process takes six to 12 months to complete, but the process provides flexibility in scheduling.
CRAA Certification Process
Confirm You’re Eligible and Register with RPII
To become a CRAA® candidate, you must first enroll with RPII AND register to take the CRAA® Exam. To qualify for candidacy, you need to satisfy at least one of the following requirements:
- Be a current undergraduate student enrolled in a degree-granting bachelor's program or equivalent from an accredited institution; note: you must complete your degree before obtaining CRAA® certification.
- Have completed a bachelor's program or equivalent and received a degree from an accredited institution.
- Have accumulated 2,000 hours or more of verifiable work or industry experience related to the real assets profession.
Pass the CRAA® Exam
The CRAA® Exam assesses your fluency in fundamental real assets topics in both public and private markets. The Exam focuses on four main types of income-producing real assets — real estate, infrastructure, timberland, and agriculture — across the spectrum of public and private equity and debt.
Satisfy the Education Requirement
The Education Requirement acknowledges the diverse nature of the built and natural environments. To fulfill this requirement, you need to provide evidence of either (i) a bachelor's degree or equivalent in any field or (ii) 6,000 hours of qualifying work or industry experience directly related to real assets professions.
Satisfy the Professional Experience Requirement
The Professional Experience Requirement requires you to hone your expertise and build the real-world skills expected of modern real assets professionals. You must have at least 4,000 hours of relevant professional experience, which can be accumulated before, during, or after enrollment in the CRAA® Program.
Satisfy the Ethics Requirement & Submit Final Application
As the final step in the certification process, you must submit the CRAA® Certification Application and fulfill the Ethics Requirement. This attestation demonstrates your commitment to maintaining high ethical standards in the real assets profession. Once RPII approves your application, you will officially become a CRAA® certificant.
