David Geltner, PhD

David Geltner is Professor of Real Estate Finance in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). David served as Academic Director of the MIT Center for Real Estate and as faculty chair of MIT’s Master of Science in Real Estate Development (MSRED) program. He is the lead author of one of the most widely-cited real estate investment textbooks, Commercial Real Estate Analysis & Investments, along with co-authors Norm Miller, Jim Clayton, and Pete Eichholtz. Dave is a recipient of the James A. Graaskamp Award for excellence and influence in real estate investment research. He served as Academic Advisor to the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries (NCREIF) and as Director of MIT’s Commercial Real Estate Data Laboratory, which developed pioneering commercial property price and investment performance indices based on transactions prices. Prior to MIT, David was the REEAC Professor of Real Estate in the Finance Department of the College of Business Administration at the University of Cincinnati. Dave received his PhD from MIT, in the Civil Engineering Department in the field of infrastructure finance and economics. He also received degrees in urban studies from Carnegie-Mellon University and the University of Michigan.
